The Lonely Forest is quickly and definitively making its way to the top of the “Most Played Recent Tracks” column on my iTunes. Considering that I had never heard of the Seattle foursome until five days ago when I saw them open for Margot & The Nuclear So & So, I’d say that’s not too shabby.
To quote the band’s Last.fm entry, “At it’s core, the music features Van Deusen’s soaring vocals and keyboard melodies wrapped tightly around Ruland’s expansive guitar anchored by a heavy yet nimble rhythm section. The contrast of brilliant pop songs featuring lyrics about spiritual longing wedded to an almost prog-rock sensibility appeals to broad swath of listeners, from wide-eyed teenagers to jaded scenesters.”
Currently on tour in support of their The Lonely Forest EP, the band has amassed quite a resume. Winners of the 2006 EMP Sound Off! Competition, they have recorded with Jack Endino who has produced for acts like Nirvana and Hot Hot Heat, been invited to record numerous in-studio with renowned indie station KEXP, and been hailed as “one of Seattle’s next breakout acts.”
You can listen to a full stream of their 2009 album, We Sing The Body Electric, here at Burning Building Records (be sure to check out tracks “Two Pink Pills” and “Blackheart vs. Captain America.)
