People—myself included—use the word awesome too often but this solo performance by Andrew McMahon of Jack’s Mannequin/Something Corporate is awesome in the truest sense of the word. McMahon is one of those rare artists whose musical presence can fill a venue equally whether he is playing with a full band or just a piano.
The vocals here are not only outstanding but wrought with pure emotion—and rightfully so—as “Swim” chronicles McMahon’s battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia back in 2005. McMahon has since made a full recovery but uses his position in the music industry to promote leukemia awareness and research. His foundation, Dear Jack, helped raise $67,000+ for the 2010 Light The Night campaign.
