I recently discovered the greatness that is Langhorne Slim thanks to a post by an old friend and fellow musicphile on his blog, Spencerotica. Hailing from Manhattan’s East Village by way Philadelphia’s outskirts, Slim has been making a name for himself in the singer-songwriter/indie/folk scene for a years now. His performance of “Restless” on Letterman—worth watching here—garnered the band some critical attention gaining them a set at 2009’s Lollapalooza.
Slim’s music is tough to classify which I think is part of it’s appeal; it’s got a little something for everyone. For those into folk music, there’s a hefty amount of upright bass and banjo on some tracks; for those more into Americana laden alt-rock there’s quite a bit of that too; and if infectiously chant-able indie rock is more your scene, well, just listen watch this video for “Cinderella,” off his latest album Be Set Free.
