Today I was talking with a friend who mentioned liking singers with soulful voices which got me thinking about—and listening to—London based trio The Noisettes. Despite forming in 2003 and touring as the opening act for an impressive group of bands—TV on the Radio, Muse, Lady Gaga—it wasn’t until last year with the release of their second studio album, Wild Young Hearts, that The Noisettes reached the international spotlight.

Sure, The Noisettes could easily be categorized in genres ranging from indie Britpop to 60s Motown to funky garage-rock and indeed their sound runs the gamut depending on the track, but whatever they are playing one thing is certain: lead singer/bass player Shingai Shoniwa’s voice has soul.
